The department store also is partnering with mobile-app company Shopkick on a feature called iBeacons, which uses game mechanics to spur customers to travel through the store to find location-specific discounts.
The NPD Group, a consumer market research firm, reported that nearly 75 percent of smartphone users are using their devices as part of the overall shopping experience, ensuring the trend will continue beyond the holiday season.
